Deep Dive with Caldera

Raw Green interview with Andy Joynson (Head of BD) on how our Storage Boilers can unlock decarbonisation of industrial heat.

If you want an insight into Caldera's Storage Boiler technology and market strategy, listen to the OBE Sustainability "Raw Green" no-holds barred conversation with our Business Development Director Andy Joynson.

Learn how Caldera can unlock the decarbonisation of industrial heat by turning "stranded green electrons" (those due to curtailment of renewables) into on-demand heat.

Understand how Caldera's technology can be deployed to replace fossil fuelled steam boilers without needing to rip out your centralised steam distribution network.

Discover three ways in which Caldera's thermal battery can be deployed to meet the challenge of turning off the gas, whilst still making financial sense (in the face of the gap between the cost of gas and electricity):

[1] Use on-site behind the meter renewables like solar PV to partially decarbonise steam demand (up to 70% achievable);

[2] Combine with heat pumps to achieve up to 100% decarbonisation, using HPs for lower temperature and base-load and Storage Boilers for higher temperature steam demand and to meet flucuating loads;

[3] Play thermal storage into the day-ahead, demand response, capacity and balancing markets to optimise electricity costs and improve bankability.

And finally Andy answers three quick-fire questions:

Most common myth to debunk abut thermal storage: Caldera's thermal storage is more cost effective that you think;

One ask for potential customers: Start planning your decarbonisation journey with your destination in mind (full electrification) and don't get distracted by "noise" (like hydrogen hype!);

If you had a policy magic wand, what incentive would accelerate heat decarbonisation the most?: flex transmission and distribution chrages to truly incentivise consumption during times of excess renewable generation. This would be a game-changer.
